Giclee Printing
The word Giclée (pronounced “zhee-clays”) comes from the French word gicleur, meaning “to spray.” The Giclée printing process is a specialized inkjet printing process that uses fade-resistant, archival, pigment-based inks and archival substrates. These large format inkjet printers use small spraying devices that match color and apply ink very precisely, producing an extremely high-quality print reproduction of the original artwork. The color processes used increases the resolution and color gamut that results in the print reproduction and provides for much smoother gradient transitions than other types of printing processes and is the preferred print process used by artists. Giclée prints provide an excellent reproduction of original art, but are more expensive to produce on a per-print basis than four-color printing processes because of the specialized process involved.
All Giclée prints are limited editions and hand-signed by the artist. Limited editions are reserved for carefully chosen pieces of artwork and only a limited number of reproductions are created, and once the designated number of editions are sold, no more will be created, which makes the limited edition prints more valuable. All limited edition prints show the number assigned to the print within the total number of limited edition prints that are created and sold.
