To understand my passion for art, we have to go back many years, as my passion for art stems directly from my love of animals and nature.
Since I was a baby, my family vacationed in the beautiful woods of northern Wisconsin, where I experienced all sorts of wildlife not found in my urban home setting. I have wonderful memories of fishing each year with my father and family, visiting the resident long-haired Daschsund at the resort (always accompanied by her summer litter of puppies), chasing frogs, seeing eagles, bears, turkey, otter, muskrats, turtles, herons, osprey, finches, hummingbirds, bobcats, deer, walleye, muskies, bass, panfish, and so much more, all experienced on a beautiful, serene lake setting. The beauty of nature filled me with curiosity, wonder, and amazement, which has lasted a lifetime and fueled my love of animals and my passion to draw the wonderful animals, life, people, and settings in the world around me.
I spent a lot of time drawing as a child and took some art classes in school, but have no formal art training, other than hours poured over YouTube videos and carefully studying and learning from the many wonderful artists I admire and have become friends with as I’ve grown my art career.
I have always had a creative streak and an eye for art, color, and texture, and have always leaned towards drawing. I’ve dabbled in ink, markers, pastels, acrylics and other mediums, but I didn’t find my true passion until my husband gifted me a set of Faber Castell Polychromos artist pencils for Christmas one year, and the rest is history. I was hooked.
I created a few art pieces and immediately got strong reactions from family and friends about my art, with some requests to purchase, as well as special commission requests. That was never my desire or intention, but with lots of encouragement, I broke into the world of colored pencil art, and I love it!
In addition to my art, I remain a passionate animal lover and have had the privilege of working for one of the finest zoos in the world for over 20 years. This has instilled in me a special appreciation for wildlife and nature, the diversity of all life and the importance of conserving species and the environment. And… working at a zoo, I have wonderful opportunities for many great subjects for my art!
I have always had a menagerie of my own animals at home over the years, from dogs to cockatiels, turtles, guinea pigs, parakeets, macaws, a cockatoo, iguana, rabbit, and more. I have a soft spot for dogs and have had Great Danes and Cocker Spaniels my whole adult life and am involved in a number of rescue organizations.
Aside from my art, I play guitar, I love music (and dancing), scrapbookbooking and paper crafts, and I still love the outdoors and fishing. Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you enjoy my artwork as much as I love creating it!
